Conversations from a Crane
Vienna, AT / 2013
As winter began to lift a noticeable lightness-in-being overtook the city. I decided to take advantage of the general friendliness that was occurring by driving a mobile scissor-lift along the north bank of the Danube Canal, initiating conversations with pedestrians walking at street level. Because of my limited knowledge of the German language I tried to orient the interactions around what was visible, primarily the lack of blue in the Canal. I spoke with the audience from the assumption that we were joined together, united in our efforts to heighten the picturesque qualities of the Canal by importing blue water from the nearby Danube River.
